Nokia unveiled its newest and latest Near Field Communication (NFC) enabled mobile phone, the Nokia 6212 classic with its classic Nokia style compact shape. NFC is a Bluetooth based system known as a new technology for mobile connectivity. It is designed in a way that cellphones will be tools for sharing content, paying bills or electronic traveling ticketsHowever it is not the first NFC supported mobile phone by Nokia, last year the Nokia 6131 with NFC feature was also unveiled. Still it seems that it will take a while before NFC techonology is widely supported.
Some other features of the Nokia 6212 classic include dual-band UMTS support, quad-band GSM, GPRS, EDGE connectivity, 2″ 16M color TFT display that has QVGA resolution. All these features make the Nokia 6212 classic similar with the Nokia 6500 classic but this cellphone doesn’t have the minimalist dimensions of the Nokia 6500 but still it’s a very compact phone and its weight is only 88g.
The Nokia 6212 has the Nokia S40 software platform which includes 2 megapixel camera, miniUSB port, FM radio, stereo Bluetooth and microSD memory card slot which can store up to 4GB.
While its price tag seems to be around 200 euro before subsidies and taxes, it will hopefully be released in Q3 2008.
