Competition of more pixels between companies seems to continue without us knowing it. It was stuck at 5 million megapixels lately, but today Samsung announced world’s thinnest 8 megapixel module which will be integrated to mobile phones. While integration seems to start in the second half of this year, this 8.5 mm thick module shows the Samsung plans for future mobile phones.

Apart from 3 million more pixels, this new module has some extra features coming with it. Face detection, anti shock and 1-cm macro are just a few of them. However no information is given about the sensor size of the camera which is an important issue for cameras. Still for cameraphone lovers this module will be available in 2008, keep waiting.
