Samsung now pulled a speck of a “Samsung” and entirely blew out its Omnia array. We just got a little face time by means of the new Omnia Lite, Omnia II, Omnia Pro and the Omnia-inspired Jet, all along with the Pixon 12 that runs the same home Samsung OS like the Jet, but includes a 12 MP camera.
It’s impossible not to notice the eye-catching AMOLED screens on these handsets, especially up against the unexciting by comparison Omnia Lite by means of its petty LCD. Unfortunately, whilst the build quality is fine and the specs are definitely all there, all the handsets were fairly slow in normal action.
The Jet and Pixon were okay and the Jet certainly have to be, amid an 800MHz “application processor”, other than we can’t imagine anyone finding any joy in the molasses Windows Mobile 6.1 practices on the Omnia trio. The Jet boasts an enjoyment little 3D UI “cube” attention-grabber, which involves the meaningless spinning of a dice to access other media apps, but nearly all of what we viewed was pretty typical TouchWiz.
We did just like the swiftness of Pixon’s camera, that does a Pre-style deception of sending photo processing responsibilities to the background so that you can snap another picture with little delay in the middle of — it’s also okay at auto focus as well as color accuracy for a handset, but we won’t be working in our regular tip and shoot in the close term.
None of the devices we looked at got network access, so we were not able to check the WebKit browsers, however it sounds like a big win in favor of the Pixon and Jet. Let’s just work on such Omnia responsiveness a bit, yes Samsung? Possibly Windows Mobile 6.5 (the Omnia Pro 6.5 and Omnia II are ready) shall be of assistance.
